Ideas anyone?

Coming up in June, our writing group is having their first competition of the year. For the last two years Chris has won both trophies. This year I plan to give him a run for his money.

The theme is true stories (up to 1000 wds).

I can submit as a many stories as I like, problem is I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Now, the stories don't have to be my own true stories, they could be yours. I just have to write them. So, if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.

  1. What is it that makes a true story compelling and worthy of a trophy? (Aside from being well written)

Do particular genres fare better than others?

  2. True stories is simply the theme they've chosen this time round. Personally I think it's a terrible theme. I'm finding it so restrictive. What happening was so exciting in my life that I want to write it into a short story... and all in under 1000 wds?

In saying that, I've written two so far. One about something a friend did for me once (which is quite good, if I do say so myself) and another about my journey out of depression, which is titled "Hell on Earth."
